Following high level discussions between the Leader and Deputy Leader of Westminster City Council and Irvine Sellar, Great Western Developments has taken the decision, today, to revise the original proposals for Paddington Place in London including its height.

The scheme seeks to create a new `gateway’ for the station and St Mary’s Hospital. The plans also allow for further improvements to the Network Rail station, provide a completely new Bakerloo tube station, offices, restaurants, new public piazzas, as well as a significant residential content.

GWD’s decision means that the application will now not be considered at the Westminster City Council planning committee on 8th March. GWD, Sellar and Westminster look forward to sharing the revised proposals very shortly.

Whilst GWD’s proposal has secured the support of many key stakeholders including Network Rail, Transport for London, St Mary’s Hospital, NHS (London) and the GLA there were concerns amongst local people around the height and impact of the tower element of the scheme on the local area.

This decision will allow for a further review of elements of the proposed development including its height and Sellar/GWD working closely with the City Council will bring forward an amended scheme that will still deliver all the substantial benefits including the significant investment in infrastructure and social housing.

We remain committed to ensuring that all the benefits of the original scheme are retained in the revised plans.

Our Paddington opportunity area makes up the largest regeneration area within Westminster and is a site of strategic importance in London. This kind of major investment in the city is vital to provide an environment where business can thrive, creating new jobs to help people achieve their aspirations and to tackle the blight of unemployment. Schemes such as this act as a catalyst for additional investment and will really kick start and boost regeneration in that area.
